Debut Author Jade Waltz #interview

Please give a warm welcome to debut author Jade Waltz

Tell us a bit about yourself

I am a mother of two sons and three cats. I live with my husband in the Midwest, USA.

During the summer, I write marching band drill – which are the pictures marching bands make on the fields to music. I also help teach the drill to the marching bands at their band camps.

When I am not writing, I enjoy reading, playing video games, knitting, and acrylic painting (even though I am not that good at it).

The first part of my pen name is the nickname people who know me well call me in real life (and because I love the color green). Since music was an important part of my life growing up and is a part of my seasonal job, I wanted to have my last name that related to it. A lot of musical terms are hard to spell (being Italian or some other foreign language) – I wanted to make sure I used an easier word. Hell, half of the time I butcher spelling some of the longer musical terms myself. That was how “Jade Waltz” was born.

Have you always wanted to become an author?

Sort of? I have written a lot of fanfics. Then I wanted to create my own worlds, so I have collected multiple notebooks of notes and outlines of universes I wanted to write someday. I finally got the courage to write one of universes and now I am here.

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

I am a huge Star Trek and Star Wars fan. Sci-fi movies/shows, anime and books are my jam. I wanted a diverse multi-cultured universe with multiple aliens and where humans weren’t the dominant species.

What are you working on now?

The initial series of the HUGE “Project” universe named “Project: Adapt”. It is space-fantasy RH/#whychoose series which will have the FMC travel through the galaxy, experiencing new things and meeting multiple aliens along the way. Her collection of males will grow throughout the series

Do you have any quirks while writing?

I always have to have at least two drinks prepared before I write (a cold drink to drink while the hot one cools off some), I have a Keurig and a pile of Lifesavers Mints always next to me so I don’t have to leave the desk.

What are your hopes for the future?

I would be happy to be successful enough to pay for the costs of creating the books and some debts — maybe even getting a nanny! ^.^ But mainly, I would love for the world to fall in love with my stories and the universes they are in.

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

Being a new author myself – my main advice would be to make writing a habit – even if it is only a thousand words a day. Get your first draft written before going back to butcher and edit it. It is better to get your story completed than getting stuck redoing a certain chapter/scene.

Do you have anything to say to your fans?

Thank you for all of your support. You help me want to push myself to write faster and grow as an author. I hope you continue to enjoy my stories as I write them.

Please give a warm welcome to author L.A. Boruff

Tell us a bit about yourself

Hi! Thanks for interviewing me today. I’m Lainie and I write under L.A. Boruff. I write mostly reverse harem romances. Some paranormal, some contemporary. I’ve got 3 wild kids and I’ve been married for a very long time.

Have you always wanted to become an author?

No, actually. I know that’s very different from what you normally hear, but I’d always thought it was far too monumental a job. I’ve always been a voracious reader, though. In 2015 I discovered a series of books I love. Then I found a fan fiction group for that series. That group pushed me to write a fan fiction, as they do everyone. I did and it was fairly well received. I figured heck, why not try it? I wrote my first book, Supay, during NaNoWriMo in 2016 and haven’t stopped since.

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

My inspirations are Charlaine Harris, Anne Rice, Janet Evanovich

What are you working on now?

3 things! 😆 A RH PNR serial about vamps and lycans, a RH dystopian, and a RH YA about mermaids.

Do you have any quirks while writing?

Not really… I listen to music sometimes, sometimes I don’t.

What are your hopes for the future?

I love writing. If I could make a living on it… ugh that would be amazing.

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

Use an editor. If you can’t afford one, use betas. Ask questions. Lots and lots of questions. Authors love giving advice. Join writing groups, but not just that, join publishing groups.

Don’t trust the advice of people who have never published a book before. They mean well, but they haven’t done it before.

Do you have anything to say to your readers?

I’m amazed by my readers every day. Every time I get a message about someone loving my stories 🥰 it’s a punch of feels straight to the heart. My goal is to let people escape for a while. If I can relieve the pressures of life for just a few minutes, that means the world. So thanks for taking a chance on my books, and thanks for your support. 💜

Author Kathryn Moon #interview

Please give a warm welcome to author Kathryn Moon

Tell us a bit about yourself

I just turned thirty this past year and I’ve been writing longer than I can remember. I love knitting and crocheting and baking to chill me out in my free time. Pies are my specialty. I’m an indie music junkie and I love all kinds of movies. I’m…fairly obsessed with my cat, Coraline.

Have you always wanted to become an author?

Not really. My mom wrote down the stories I told her and when I was old enough I wrote stories on the computer, back when AOL dial up JUST arrived on the scene. I never really stopped writing but I didn’t think of it in terms of wanting to share those stories until I was in college studying fashion design. I was totally miserable, I hated sewing machines, and I was writing in all my spare time. I ended up dropping out and switching majors after my freshman year and I’ve been pursuing writing pretty single-mindedly since then.

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

I love writing about witches and all different kinds of magic. My new release, Command the Moon, is heavily inspired by folk magics and also Russian fairy tales. Originally in my head it was titled The House on No Legs and had a pretty heavy Baba Yaga theme, but that trickled out in the writing and me getting caught up in the romance angle of the story. It eventually became more about personal power but there are still little Easter egg secrets in details left over from old ideas.

What are you working on now?

I’m working on Book 3 of The Librarian’s Coven, titled Scrivens. I’m really excited about returning to my coven of characters and the surprises I have coming in the book. Written was my first published book so it’s fun to continue that journey and I love the romance between Joanna and her men.

Do you have any quirks while writing?

I like to have a candle or incense burning and I cultivate playlists pretty meticulously. They don’t always make sense for the mood of the story but if I find myself not being too distracted by a song playing and really pounding words out, I add it. I like to pretend my ears have muscle memory and playing those songs again will keep me motivated.

What are your hopes for the future?

I sometimes feel rushed to produce new works and keep audience attention, and I try to ignore that feeling in favor of producing the story I want to tell in the moment. I’d like to get to a slightly more comfortable spot where I stop thinking about sales and numbers and write with a little less stress. (But I’m an anxious person so that’s probably wishful thinking, LOL.)

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

Writing the stories you want to tell is an incredibly joyful and thrilling thing, but at the end of the day it IS still work. Don’t be afraid of those moments where words won’t come or you hate your story or you want to tear your hair out. Power through them with a frown on your face the whole time if you have to. There’s always going to be a second draft, help from betas, your editor’s advice. And after the book is out you won’t remember the struggle quite as vividly. Or at least that’s how it works for me.

Do you have anything to say to your fans?

I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to fully say thank you, not with the strength that I feel every day. Finding you and having you find me and sharing my work is the exact thing I wake up for in the morning. I cannot tell you how lucky you make me feel. Thank you from the end of my hair to the tips of my toes. ♡

Author Mila Young #interview

Please give a warm welcome to author Mila Young

About Mila

Bestselling Author, Mila Young tackles everything with the zeal and bravado of the fairytale heroes she grew up reading about. She slays monsters, real and imaginary, like there’s no tomorrow. By day she rocks a keyboard as a marketing extraordinaire. At night she battles with her might pen-sword, creating fairytale retellings, and sexy ever after tales. In her spare time, she loves pretending she’s a mighty warrior, cuddling up with her cats, and devouring every fantasy tale she can get her pinkies on.

Have you always wanted to become an author?

I’ve been writing since I was young, but it was until I moved out of home that I realized my passion was in creating stories. It helps that my dad is also an author, so I guess the writing bug is in my blood 

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

I grew up reading everything I could get my hands on about mythology, and even completed a degree in mythology, so to be it made perfect sense that I would put what I loved in my stories.

What are you working on now?

Right now, I’m writing book 1 of my brand new series – Taking Breath. It’s a dark romance set in a near post-apocalyptic world where men outnumber females fifty to one and survival is an everyday battle. This is Caeli’s story… See cover attached.

Do you have any quirks while writing?

Hmm I always have a cup of tea and water by my desk and I can’t write without music! It’s my muse.

What are your hopes for the future?

My plans are to become a full-time writer and follow my dream to create stories every day of the week.

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

Never give up. No matter how hard things seem, take it one piece at a time and you’ll get there. Plus, network. Get out there and meet other authors, make friends, and learn.

Do you have anything to say to your fans?

That I am completely blessed to have met so many readers who adored my stories, and I always make time to speak to anyone who contacts me as I love to hear from my readers.

Author Helen Scott #interview

Please give a warm welcome to author Helen Scott

Tell us a bit about yourself

Have you always wanted to become an author?

I think in the back of my mind I did, but I never really considered it to be much of a possibility until a few years ago. Once I set my mind to it I tried to learn as much as I could about all aspects of it and am still working on that today. Being an author isn’t a stagnant thing for me. I’m always trying to better my writing skills and overall business knowledge.

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

Honestly? A writing prompt that got stuck in my head like a favorite song. The more I thought about it the more the world filled out in my head and the more I knew I had to write it!

What are you working on now?

A novella for an anthology that’s about the descendants of cupid, and of course my Four Worlds series.

Do you have any quirks while writing?

I always either write in silence or listen to instrumental music. If I listen to music with words it usually ends with me singing along instead of writing.

What are your hopes for the future?

I hope that I can continue to write books that people enjoy, and that I can make enough money that I don’t have to go back to a day job and can keep doing what I love.

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

Study. Study the craft, study the business, study what other writers have done to become successful, then make it work for you and your style.

Do you have anything to say to your fans?

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. There will never be enough words to explain how I feel knowing that people are reading, and hopefully enjoying, my work as an author. I hope you know just how special you all make me feel and how amazing I think you are. Thank you for supporting me on this wild ride!

Author Autumn Reed #interview

Please give a warm welcome to author Autumn Reed

Tell us a bit about yourself.

Hello. I’m a lifelong bookworm who loves cloudy days, cute animals, and witty characters. I live in Dallas, Texas with my husband and fluffy little dog but long to reside somewhere with cool weather and lots of trees.

Have you always wanted to become an author?

Honestly? No.

I’ve never considered myself a creative person. And though I excelled at technical writing in school, I didn’t believe I would be any good at writing fiction. It wasn’t until I jumped into my first book that I realized I could do it. I just have to work really hard to get the words on the page. Every single chapter I write is a challenge, but it also comes with a profound sense of accomplishment.

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

The cover for Touch of Regret is actually what inspired The Collectors series. I’d had a vague notion of wanting to write a character who saw memories through touch, and when I first saw the cover, the storyline started falling into place. I imagined a woman who has been hiding from her life but doesn’t realize it until she meets other people with gifts like hers. And that’s how the story begins.

What are you working on now?

I’m currently writing the second book in The Collectors series, Touch of Wrath. If things go as planned, it will be released sometime in March.

Do you have any quirks while writing?

I always, always listen to music when writing. It’s the only way I have any hope of focusing. And I’m incredibly slow. I tend to perfect every word as I write, which is something I’m trying really hard to change.

What are your hopes for the future?

I hope to be able to sustain writing as a career. I want to improve with every book I write. I long to stop measuring myself against other people’s success and be proud of what I’ve accomplished.

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

Keep writing. My first few books hardly sold any copies. But, eventually, the series took off, and it turned into a fan favorite. Most indie authors don’t hit it out of the park with every book or series, so if you’re committed to being an author, keep trying.

Do you have anything to say to your fans?

Thank you for every kind word, positive review, supportive post, and encouraging message. You all are what keeps me going when I lose faith in myself and my work. You’re the best!

Fall for Autumn Reed

Author Crystal Ash #interview

Please give a warm welcome to author Crystal Ash

Tell us a bit about yourself.

Hi, I’m Crystal Ash! I’m a writer from Northern California. I live with my husband and cat in a pretty quiet suburb. When I’m not writing, my hobbies range from beer making to growing carnivorous plants, hah. My interests are all over the place but generally I’m a quiet homebody who likes hanging out on my own or with those closest to me.

Have you always wanted to become an author?

Not always as a profession, but writing has always been an interest of mine. My dad’s a writer too, so I’m sure some of it is inherited. I started reading voraciously at a young age and journaling after seeing my dad do it. I wrote my first fiction in my early teens and blogged about various topics into adulthood.

As far as jobs go, I’ve been a lifeguard, a photographer, a sandwich artist, a bar manager, and so on. It’s been a long, winding road to having author as a career path, but I don’t think I’d have it any other way!

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

Honestly, the mistreatment of animals is what inspired me to write Harem of Freaks. I love writing shifters because I love exploring the similarities we share with other animals. The instinct to protect our offspring and loved ones, the desire for a mate, etc. I’m a huge animal lover, as you can tell! To me, nothing is more heart-wrenching than how some animals are mistreated, especially in circus and some zoo situations. What’s even worse is seeing those you love treated in the same way, so this has been a VERY emotional series for me.

What are you working on now?

I’m currently working on Curtain Call, the final Harem of Freaks book. Once that’s done, I’ll be wrapping up my story for the Fated Mates boxed set, which releases in early June. I’ll have a couple of short stories for special projects coming out in the meantime as well!

Do you have any quirks while writing?

After several attempts, I’ve realized I can’t write in coffee shops like many authors do. I get distracted because I’m too much of a people watcher! I also obsessively track my word counts in several places (notepad, calendar, Pacemaker app, Discord server…). Yeah, wow. Didn’t even realize it was that many!

What are your hopes for the future?

I love traveling, so I hope to attend book signings locally and abroad to meet readers in person. I’m going to my first book convention later this year, Literary Love Savannah, and I’m tentatively planning for 2020 as well!

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

Don’t be too hard on yourself and definitely don’t compare yourself to others! Always be willing to learn, grow, and experiment.

Do you have anything to say to your fans?

I love you! You have literally made my dreams come true and I’ll keep writing the books you love for as long as I can! My readers move me every day and I’m so lucky to have them.
